A buck that Tiffany named 'Heavy D' first showed up in Crushville in late September on the Cuddeback cameras. Lee wasn't sure that he had ever seen the buck before but he knew he was definitely a good one!  Once the season opened up however Heavy D seemed to just disappear.  Not unusual for mature bucks but luckily for Lee and Tiffany he began to show up again on the cameras in mid October.  Both Lee and Tiffany hunted Heavy D but it wasn't until the last week of Oct that Lee finally laid eyes on him.  "I had Heavy D literally at 10 yards on one of our Crush Clover fields, this was going to be almost too easy!  I already had a spot picked out for him on my wall!"  Lee recalls.  The problem was that there was literally zero wind and Heavy D was so close that when Lee came to full draw the buck sensed that something wasn't right and bolted out of the field before Lee could get a shot off!  "I stood for several minutes starring off into the timber in disbelief!  I looked at my cameraman and said, "what just happened!"  Lee was sick over the incident; now he got an up close and personal look at Heavy D and realized that he was even bigger than he had originally thought!  "I knew I really screwed up, I should have waited for him to move further out into the field before I tried to draw on him, bucks of this age rarely give you more that one chance at them in a season."  Lee  was right, Heavy D once again went underground.  Lee and Tiffany went back to hunting other bucks but always kept a close eye on the cameras hoping that Heavy D would once again appear, and on Nov 14th, he finally did!  "I was ecstatic" Lee recalls!  Over the next few days Heavy D showed up on several of the cameras and now, some during daylight hours!  "I figured he was between does and on his feet again looking for another one, I knew I had to get back on the Crush Clover field pronto!"  The next morning (Nov 17th) Lee was back on the Crush Clover and just after daylight he heard a loud grunt in front of him and within seconds, a doe broke out running at top speed across the field with none other than Heavy D in hot pursuit!  He ran within 30 yards of Lee's stand but never slowed down to give him a shot!  Lee was "crushed" once again.  45 minutes had passed and several does and small bucks had filtered into the Crush Clover field when Lee, once again, heard a grunt coming from across the field.  several more does sprinted onto the field and then, the buck that was pushing them finally appeared!  "I couldn't believe it, Heavy D had ran off to the south in hot pursuit of a doe just 45 minutes earlier and now, here he was again right if front of me!"  He came into the field 80 yards away from Lee's stand and began lip curling and grunting at the does pushing them down the field right in front of the stand!  Lee knew he was about to get another chance at Heavy D!  Then, instead of following the does down the field in front of the stand, he turned an bristled up at a small buck and began walking him off the field!  But, luckily for Lee, he stopped short of exiting the field and began eating.  Lee ranged the buck at 47 yards and said "That's close enough!  He was quartering away from me perfectly just standing there eating, I wasn't going to let him get away from me again!  I moved my pin to 47 yards, drew my new Mathew's Heli-m bow and put my pin on the hoof of Heavy D's off leg.  I slowly moved the pin up his leg and continued it up to the middle of his body.  I knew that at this distance he would have plenty of time to react to the shot so I settled the pin low on his body just above where his off leg disappeared behind his huge chest.  I held the pin steady on the spot for several seconds using tension from my ring finger to slowly push the trigger of my Carter Target 4 release into my thumb and the arrow exploded from the bow!  I heard the tell-tale "thwack" of the arrow hitting it's mark and Heavy D bucked and headed for the timber."And the rest is, as they say, history......   Scoring Info:When I saw him the first time and didn't get a shot at him I figured he would be in the 180's.  Then, when I shot him and put a tape on him he scored 190"!  And, that was without his left brow tine which he just broke off the night before I shot him, he would have scored around 197" if he hadn't broke the brow tine off!  BBD!!!!
