BBD for Lee!
Thursday, November 4, 2010
As you may recall, Tiffany had the first Iowa BBD this season, but you won't feel too sorry for Lee once you see the 8-point monster he crushed soon after on Oct 10. It was a hot evening hunt. In fact it was so hot that the Lakosky team did some scouting the day before, thinking it was just too hot (75 degrees!) for any deer movement so they didn't bother to hunt that day. Well, they were wrong.
"I scouted the field the day before with Tiffany and Tom & Kari Roles, and the big 9 point we call "2Pac" came out in broad daylight! Even though it was hot, we went in the next day to hang another stand for the 9 point. When Steven (camera man) & I set up to hunt later that evening, deer started to pour out -15 to 20 does, fawns, small bucks came out right in front of us a half hour into the hunt.We couldn't believe it. " Lee said.
Soon after Steven noticed a buck coming in the timber. Lee & Steven realized there were actually two bucks coming their way. Steven was looking at the first buck "Wally",who inherited that name due to the "wall" of points the buck has - 8 points standing on his right side, and 6 points on his left, not including any sticker points). Lee was looking at the 2nd buck, and asked Steven "Do you think he's a shooter?" Steven gave Lee a strange look, assuming Lee was talking about "Wally" - Wally is not on this year's hit list, being only 3 1/2 yrs. Just then Steven noticed the 2nd buck, and looked at Lee as if "Do you even have to ask me if I think he's big enough?!".
Per Lee, Wally walked into a shooting lane at 22 yards and stopped to scan the field, and the big 8 shooter buck stopped behind him as well, behind a thick tree limb. This gave Lee time to check out the buck to make sure he was mature enough. As Lee readied for the shot, both bucks moved forward towards the field. As soon as the Big 8 stepped into the lane, Lee drew his Mathew's Z7 and sent the G5 T3 Tekan on its way. The buck only went 50 yards from the stand.
Congrats Lee! Iowa BBD taken with Mathews Z7 Extreme T3 G5 boradhead on the edge of an Antler King trophy clover plot bordering a corn field. Same farm where Lee shot the infamous Gnarles Barkley last year.
As it turns out, they had only seen this buck once before on the Cuddeback.
Way to go Lee & Crush Team!
Peace, Love and a whole lot of venison.
Stay tuned for more Iowa action.
