Over the last few years Eric and I have received a ton of messages from people in Virginia and the East Coast wanting to see us hunting more in our home state. This year we were determined to try and harvest a buck for the home state fans. It started in late summer when I put my Moultrie camera on an inside corner of a clover field on our family farm. I started getting numerous pics of some pretty good bucks coming in well before dark. I also knew that the Oaks that bordered the field would soon be dropping acorns enticing them to the field even more. Our season started here October 1st so knowing we had done our homework we were hoping one of the bucks would show up. Well as always every other buck on the farm showed up like clockwork except the one I was after. I passed a good 8 pt. just hoping the mature buck would show up. Just at last light he finally came in. He ate acorns for what seemed forever and then made the mistake of walking into the clover field giving me a 28 yd shot. 70 yards later he was down and I had my hands on a great ridge running Va. mountain buck.         The best part of this hunt is that I took this deer out of the exact same tree that I took my first buck with a bow 17 years ago. It was an old homemade stand that is still standing.
