Aiming For a Cure
Tuesday, March 19, 2013
This past weekend, cameraman Bryan Lemke and I headed down to Iowa City for an event that is near and dear to my heart, “Aiming For a Cure’s” Celebrity Hunt. This was my fifth time attending this event, and I have a blast every time!
Founder of Aiming For a Cure Steve Ries (right), friend Larry Woodward and 2 young participants!
The Aiming For a Cure Foundation was started by Steve, Jodie, and their son Ben Ries in 2003. The foundation’s goal is to help pediatric oncology patients and their families through the funding of cancer research and patient care. The celebrity hunt benefits children and their families undergoing treatment for cancer at the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital.
We have met so many great people and made some lifelong friends with Aiming For a Cure!
The event was a 2 day hunt at Highland Hideaway Hunt Club. There was a sporting clay shoot and a pheasant hunt. At the end of the day on Saturday, they had a big dinner followed a banquet and auction. The banquet was not only fun, but truly inspiring!
Our team! We shot close to 50 pheasants in 2 days and had a great time!
This is such a great event and for such an incredible cause. There are so many people that dedicate their time and efforts to making others’ lives better. I cannot thank Steve and Jodie Ries, as well as Tim Anderson, enough for letting us come down and be apart of Aiming For a Cure! Cancer is a terrible thing and has affected us all in one way or another, so we do absolutely everything we can to support cancer treatment patients, their families, and finding a cure. We will no doubt be at the Aiming For a Cure hunt next year and hopefully we will see you there!
