SPRING BEAR HUNT AND FISHING TRIP
Wednesday, July 4, 2012
It has been a busy spring for us and the Driven crew! We have been working hard on finishing our Legacy Quest shed and preparing for our wedding, but there was no way that we were going to miss heading up to Saskatchewan to do a little spring bear hunting and a little fishing!
The first thing we did when we got there is meet up with Grant Kuypers of Buck Paradise Outfitters. After meeting Grant, we packed all of our gear into a floatplane and headed north to Cree Lake Lodge. We had heard so much about how beautiful Cree Lake was, so we had to check it out for ourselves!
After hooking up with Brandon Schreiber and the gang, it was finally time to do a little fishing before we started to bear hunt. The fishing was unbelievable! Almost every cast, we reeled in a northern pike that averaged 20+ lbs!
Not only were the northern pike on fire, but so was the lake trout fishing. We caught more lake trout than you could imagine. Cree Lake definitely has some of the best fishing in the world, and Brandon and his crew sure know how to catch them!
After fishing, it was time to do a little bear hunting. We hunted a few nights at Cree Lake Lodge and Pat arrowed a beautiful black bear from the ground with his Mathews. There is nothing like getting up close and personal with a black bear on the ground!
Nicole hunted a few nights at Cree Lake Lodge, but to no avail. The good thing was, the fish never stopped biting! After a few more days of catching monster northern pike and lake trout, we packed all of our gear back into the floatplane and headed back to Buck Paradise Outfitters for the last night of our hunt. The takeoff was a little shaky with all of our gear weighing down the plane, but after the second attempt we were on our way back to Buck Paradise!
We headed to the tree hoping Nicole would get a shot at a great black bear that Grant had Cuddeback pictures of. After sitting for a few hours, we were speechless when we turned around and saw a gorgeous blonde bear headed our way. The bear walked right under our tree and Nicole made a perfect shot! Talk about last night luck! Grant had not seen this bear before and didn’t have any pictures of it. This was truly a bear of a lifetime!
Every time we go to Saskatchewan, we are never disappointed, and this trip was no different. We can’t thank Grant Kuypers with Buck Paradise Outfitters, and Brandon Schreiber with Cree Lake Lodge enough. This was honestly a trip that we will never forget. If you want to experience some of the best fishing in the world, make sure you get ahold of Brandon at Cree Lake Lodge. And as always, Buck Paradise exceeded all of our expectations. Whether it is bear, deer or waterfowl hunting, Grant Kuypers has got it going on! Thanks Grant and Brandon and everyone at Cree Lake so much again for the experience of a lifetime!!
