Changing Things Up For Coyotes

Many predator hunters pursue coyotes form locations that offer easy access by truck or ATV. Easy access may be convenient but like many other species, after hearing various calls from nearby county roads, coyotes can become educated rather than fooled like you may have hoped. This season try to get off the beaten path, travel further distances, and chase coyotes in less accessible areas. By changing things up and walking greater lengths to your stands you will find coyotes that are less educated. By being in the areas many coyotes call home, you will reap the rewards of them charging in on the call as they will be unable to resist. Now pair location with proper coyote vocalizations and your odds of being successful raise tremendously. With that said, not all call or vocal is created equal. Like anything, to be an effective caller with a mouth blown call can take time and practice. It is important to implement calls that are non-threatening, keeping coyotes in the area interested rather then spooking them off. If the mouth blown call is not for you than many states allow the use of electronic calls to call in coyotes. It is valuable to know that coyotes respond to calls for a variety of reasons; some being, curiosity, hunger, mating, and territory dominance. So keep this in mind when calling and don't be afraid to change the calling sequence up to peak the interest of a coyote. Put in the effort this winter, change up your approach, and be rewarded for your hard work and persistence, bagging more coyotes then ever before! Good Hunting.
