NEW Woodman's Pal Model 481 Classic Machete
Woodman's Pal Model 481 Classic
Available since 1941, the Woodman's Pal is a far cry from what you'd call a new kind of machete. This unique tool was created by a woodsman who wanted a compact tool for pruning, splitting, chopping, blazing trails and other outdoor activities. From WWII to Desert Storm, The Woodman's Pal has been included in many civilian and military survival kits. Also rated one of the 20 best all time blades by Field and Stream magazine, it's a tough, no-nonsense, essential piece of survival gear.
With an overall length of 16 1/2", including the 6" ash hardwood handle design to fit the user's hand snuggly, the Woodman's Pal Model 481 Classic is ideal for any outdoorsman. The 1/8" thick x 10 1/2" high carbon steel blade hardened to Rockwell C47 gives it strength for cutting, keeping its edge and flexibility in cold weather. The resin-bonded fluorocarbon coating prevents cracking and corrosion over time.
The blade cuts branches up to 1 1/2" in diameter with a single stroke. Its unique sickle hook slices through stubborn vines and briars and removes unwanted sprout growth at ground level. Serving as as an axe, machete or hatchet, the Woodsman's Pal Classic Model 481 is accompanied by a nylon or leather wrist strap, this allows for quick dropping and retrieval when necessary.
The Woodsman's Pal is a family-owned-and-manufactured product in Pennsylvania with all American-made raw materials. This classic tool is supplied to the U.S. Army, which appreciates its balance and safety. The blade's balance runs from the grip to the edge of sickle to create natural momentum guaranteeing efficient, comfortable and accurate motion. To reduce risk of deflective injuries, the safety toe extends one inch up the axe side of the tool.
If your profession or pastime takes you outdoors, the Woodman's Pal is just the tool you have been looking for!
Re: NEW Woodman's Pal Model 481 Classic Machete
A great tool. The ash grip is not as comfortable as the leather grip on the model284, but it does grip the hand well and will last a lifetime(that is, if you don't shoot it or do anything stupid like that). The blade is also exellent, and MUCH safer than a conventional machete. It also handles better and gets the job done faster. Once you hold this fine piece of steel in your hand, you cannot let it go. It is just that good.
